There are very few teams with cap space that would strongly consider signing a guy like Marcus Smart at his price tag of $12-14 million. This is fantastic for Celtics fans because it means that he is more likely to stay with the team for the 2018-2019 campaign.
Late last week there were reports of Smarts camp being disgruntled with the Celtics front office for not being in communication with them. It seems they are disappointed in the market this summer as teams are stockpiling cap room for the huge free agent class next summer. Because of this, we are likely to see Marcus sign a 1+1 qualifying offer with the latter being a player option.
Unless the Kings are prepared to offer Smart a big offer after losing out on Zach Levine, we are most likely going to see Smart return to the Celtics next year.
